I like the idea that Dru ep should be a two-parter.
Shortest post in history.

Hokay. I really like the idea of letting Andrew explore Spike's reasons for staying in LA, except for one nagging issue. Why IS Spike staying in LA??
While Andrew shows us Spike's reasons for sticking around, he'll inadvertently show us more about his own reasons for staying in LA.

Dismas is correct guys, we need to come up with a good reason for Spike to stick around. And something good, not like "The pig's blood is always fresher and more tasty in LA!" or something like that.

Angel will probably take the deaths of Wesley, Fred, and Gunn very hard. Now he's got no one else if Spike leaves (except Illyria, but she's not one for comfort.) Spike could be more concerned about Angel than he'd like to admit.

If we maybe have Spike living in the Demon Shelter, I think he should begin to have feelings for a female demon that is living there. I think she should maybe have a few demon sons or daughters. Maybe a brother. Perhaps her husband was killed (maybe not directly by humans but humans were involved somehow. OR her husband was killed by other demons - like they killed him for food - but those demons needed food because humans took theirs - or something like that - it doesn't have to be food). So she's in the Shelter. Spike could meet her there or he could save her after her husband is killed and bring her to the shelter. Either way, he starts checking up on her a lot. Talking to her. And he comes to love her. It doesn't even have to get physical. Anyway, this relationship with her makes him sympathetic to her and the other demon's plight. When a fight between those Shelter Demons and the humans suddenly breaks out one night, Angel tries to hold Spike back from it. But Spike joins in, beating on humans. Of course, when he discovers what is going on (the PTB are behind it), he goes with Angel the rest of the way.
I can see him at first not wanting to fight humans, but the female demon convinces him otherwise.
Spike: It's their world now. Has been for a long time. FemDemon: Yeah, and they're pushing on ours, on mine, on my children's, and they're gonna keep pushing until we've got no world left. The only way I see any future is if we push back.
Then, when a fight breaks out, she's attacked and he jumps in.
I think there are lots of possibilities. One of her sons could die fighting. She could die. Spike could develop a father-type role with her offspring. There's the obvious tension with her brother. Spike's a vampire. Vampires aren't thought very highly of.
But I think it'd be more of a traditional love story than the one he had with Buffy. Thoughts?

I think having Spike fall in love (again) is an excellent reason to stay in LA - plus, it is where the remnants of his vampire "family" is and the only place he has friends. Spike is a very social character and I think having friends and a love interest are more than enough reason for him to stay in LA.
Plus, Spike is love's bitch, and he's not too proud to admit it.

I like the idea of the lady demon who makes Spike see other sides of the demons vs humans fight. I'm not as crazy about him falling in love, and making that his reason for staying. It seems too simple for an Angel plot. 'Course simple might be what we need, what with the lack of better ideas and all. Can we make a non-love relationship strong enough to do what we need?
Remeber how Angel left Sunnydale because it was for his and Buffy's own good? Giles once said Spike wasn't smart enough to do that. Maybe now he is. Except this doesn't make sense because it's not the same situation, since he's not in danger of losing his soul.

I gotta agree with Dismas.... partiallly. While I do like the idea of Spike falling in love with a demon-lady and then being lured into attacking humans it does sound a tad simple.
I do think that the idea is very good, and opens a lot of possbibilities. It just falls a bit too short.
But, it is the best we have so far, it might be best of we use it.

So does anybody have any ideas to add to this Spike storyline of caring about a female demon? Any cool twists on it? I feel like we really don't have any kind of love story this season yet. And I'd like to start establishing what Spike's going to be doing this season, especially since it is kind of looking likely that we'll be having a very Spike-centric episode in the first Arc of the season.
So let loose with those ideas.

I guess I should chime in here.
First, I have to say I am 100% against the idea of Spike gaining a love interest. Yes, I know that it gives him motivation to stick around and yes, I know its an established pattern with his character, but I think it's just been "done" before.
I think (and Spike will not admit this, but Andrew might figure it out in "conv w/ Spike) that he is sticking around because Angel is his family. Yeah, I know its corny but it does kind of go back to the whole "the real love story of S5 is Angel & Spike".
Besides where else is there to go? He has a much deeper connection with Angel than he will ever have with Buffy (who has also moved on) and Dru is evil and insane. What else does he have?
I think that Spike's role for a bulk portion of the season will be trying to save the unsavable Fred once she and Illyria are split.

Okay, but I do think we need to connect this Demon Shelter to our characters more. I think we need a new demon character that one or more of our main characters meet in the Shelter. And I do think that it would be nice if one of our characters was tempted to join this war with humans toward the end of the season.

And really it's not so much a love story as it is a story about Spike caring about this demon, trying to help the helpless.
There's always the option of connecting a demon from the shelter to another character, like Illyria or Andrew. I don't really see Angel getting connected, especially with the mood he'll be in in Arc II.

How about Illyria, especially when it becomes obvious to her that the split to create Fred again will destroy her?

Hmm, I think that a short while ago we were saying that Fred would be seduced by the Powers that Be.
Did we ever approve that idea?

very vague - in fact, I think it may be time to create an entry for her in the character's bible.

Nice way to say "Yo producers, quit slacking and get back to work ya lazy gits"
Anyway, I don't think that Fred will require a full entry per se. We already knbow much about her. The only other character that will have an entry as extensive as Grace's will be Tobit, as he is the only other major character that is introduced in this season.
For the others I guess they will just have arcs like the ones seen for Fred and Angel. But much more detailed.
Expect all this in six to eight months.
