Yeah, that would be a great moment. Can't you just see Alan having that little epiphany of who she is and then having a mild panic, trying to make excuses to get him out of there and to the powers? Great moment. Too bad it won't be filmed. Bah.

Hi guys, just had an idea about a big bad don't know what people would think but here it goes...
LA and the world are plunging into chaos yeah? Chaos by its definition is unpredictable so at any time it could burn itself out leaving the world forever in an imbalance so that good and evil will never reach a conclusion and so no one will ever win. This smashes all the plans anyone has ever had for the world and so both good and evil want chaos to continue until the time is right for them to start their battle once more. So to ensure this happens they have come together to create a demon/person who is shadowy and unclear and his job is to fan the flames of chaos around the world. He does this through all different ways such as little things like being the whisper in the back of your mind or the causing the freak storm to bring down a plane.. etc lots of cool things could be done with this. He can appear and disappear anywhere at will and he lives in the shadows. The only way to stop him would be to cancel out the chaos around him and draw his power away from him. The power could be our fears and other stuff... I don't know, what do you think? This is just a rough idea, feel free to add or change at will.

Power fed from fear is a typical Joss demony kind of thing. Works for me. Plus feeding into the chaos-being-things-not-seeming-to-be-what-they-really-are kind of chaos.
But then again reality lies in how you see things.

Just another thought on that, but it could also get very dark from this guy/demon who creates the chaos. If he puts ideas into people's heads it could convince husbands that their wives are having an affair and they end up killing their innocent partner and stuff like that... Angel could even be trying to help the wife who thinks her husband is possessed (is that spelt right?!) but Angel just can't seem to work out what is wrong. That is until later in the season when he realises this guy is responsible for a lot of the stuff that he has been dealing with...

OK so the powers are the BIG BAD.
Now what is their actual goal, what are they aiming for?
The way I see it they are sort of like the universe's accountants. They like balance. They like things in there place and they do everthing they can to put things there. In the past they were no that powerful and had to rely on Champion etc to be their instrument on earth. But since the shift in the balance of power they can actually do something themselves to keep the balance/order. Now what could be more orderly than something that never changes. So they decide to stop time, keeping everything, good or bad, in its current state. Now to do this immense thing they need some time to gather enough power. However theres that pesky "Grace" and her champion Angel snooping around trying to fix things. Enter "Alan" the spoke in the wheels.
I think this could work as as an overall back plot; knowing what they are trying to acheive.
Input please...

What we had thought up so far was that since Angel destroyed all of the link the Senior Partners had to the world they made the balance... um, unbalanced. So therefor the Powers that Be gain more power in the world, more power than they should have.
Now, like you said before The PTB like the balance that allows them to keep their fat asses in charge of everything, so I am thinking that they'll want to do something to tip back the scales of evil to restore the balance.
How the fuck are we going to write this? You tell me.

I think the extra power would scew their veiw of things. They are more powerful than anyone/anything now. Why would they want to change this? Why would they want to "give" this extra power back, as it were?
Now that the power is tipped in their favour I think they would want it to stay like that. The extra power has corrupted them, moved them from an impartial point of watching and nudging things in the right direction to a point were they can say "Screw you all, we're in charge now", and do what they want.
If they want to tip the scales to evil again, isnt their goal the same as Angel with regards to the Good Apocolypse? - This doesnt fit with the whole idea of them being "evil".

I don't think that makes sense. The Powers want to stay in charge by remaining less powerful?
Second, Angel hasn't destroyed all the SP's links. Just the most important ones.
I say the Powers favor order over chaos, because they have a Big Picture plan that Angel is disrupting.
A common question is how to define good without the presense of evil. The Powers have a big problem with this because they're all supposed to be good, but they don't all agree on what that means. Hence dissenters like Grace and Jasmine.

I dont think the PTB think in terms of good and evil, theyre above that. They probably think order over chaos which is why I think my idea, with a little tweaking, will work. I agree with what Dismas said, I dont think we can count the SP out completely. They may even want the same thing an Angel this season. ie The Good Apocolypse.
My understanding is that the good apocolypse is intended to "pull" the added power away from TPTB.

The intention of the Good Apoc is to say, "We don't need Powers directing our every action. We are the power."
And I agree that TPTB doesn't think in terms of Good and Evil. They believe in order and want to reject the chaos that is coming.
What Angel and Grace need to do is find the order in the chaos that will eventually lead them to the Good Apoc.

That's it in three sentences, as I'm seeing season 6 pan out.

There we go! I agree with LizaP, that's exactly where we want to go.

Yeah that is why they dont want the chaos as if the good appoc happens then they lose their grip over man's fate. That means we take control of our own destiny, something they don't want. To bring about our own freedom we need chaos, order keeps us as slaves to the powers.

To bring about our own freedom we need chaos, order keeps us as slaves to the powers. Just to clarify, we need the chaos to get to the good Apoc, and we will find our own order - without the Powers.
