Ok granted Season 6 is nowhere near over yet, but how about a series 7 who says it has to be just one more season? Thoughts please

This is something that has been discussed quite a bit in various places all over this site. The general consensus seems to be no. The overall goal of this project is to give Angel the ending it truly deserved rather than the forced rush-job that was the ending of season five. While nothing is yet set in stone, and minds can most certainly change, we seem to be leaning toward making one solid season and calling it good.
This is not to say the magic must end there; there are active plans in the works for at least one series that takes place in the Whedonverse under the FUWB banner (Raven), and possibly (hopefully) some original FUWB series that aren't Joss-related.

I'm all for just a sixth season and no seventh, but I need to say I object to it being said that the ending of Season Five was a "rush-job" or wasn't the true ending of Angel or any other variation on that. The end of S5 was a perfect ending for Angel, and that seems all the more incredible because we know it wasn't intended to be the end of the series. It may not have been the ending it deserved, but it was a perfect ending, I feel. That's especially become clear to me while doing this season and trying to think up an ending for it. Basically, at the end of S5, all thematic issues either come full circle or obtain complete closure, which makes our job particularly hard - but fun! ;D
So...I don't know where I was going with this. I just couldn't keep my mouth shut.

I have to agree with Drew. I didn't want to say earlier I case I rocked the boat but the end of "Not Fade Away" was a perfect finale to the series. It certianly captured the "neverending fight" messege of Angel. The only thing that ruined it was the "Fuck you from WB" tacked on at the end.

Let me clarify. I don't object to the ending per se, but it would have nice to have a better build-up for it. Because of The Whub's underhanded dealings in regard to Angel's return for a season six, Whedon & Co. were esentially put into the position of tying it up in, what 3 eps? Honestly, if they really thought they were gonna be cancelled do you think they would have introduced Illyria that late in the game? That was the kind of development you bring about so you can take some time exploring the possibilities.
But, yes, I thought the ending was appropriate, and made the statement that needed to be made; I just wish they would have had the opportunity to make that statement more gracefully.

okay, I think that I get what PTb is saying. He is not saying anything against the ending episode itself. What he is saying was rushed is the whole arc thing that happened there at the end. And yeah, the final episodes did feel a bit rushed (the intro of the CBT just one episode away from the ending? Come on.) Of course I could be way of the mark. Not that anyone asked but as long as we're talking about Not Fade Away, that was for me the single most perfect episode and ending that Angel could ever have. In my opinion that was the most impressive and excelent hour of TV I've ever seen. Of course you walk away from it because right after the drama of the episode the stupid WB comes on and says, "He guys, in case the message wasn't clear enough with us cancelling yer show: FUCK YOU!" But the episode itself 11/10 And yeah, these guys are right. The function of this thing is to continue the story of Angel. Joss Whedon said that Angel was the show that was really hitting its stride when it was canned, that he thought that the show could continue for a while longer. So I thought let's continue it and try to forge the remaining chapter. But I think that season six is it. Season Seven would be cool but I think that once we make a really great end to the saga, we stop with Angel and say we did our duty. Of course we can always go write more stuff if we want. ;D

The thing is, I think they intended to do everything they did at the end of S5 even if they weren't cancelled. The show was canned in February (right?), just after the airing of Ep. 12 ("You're Welcome"). Fred dies in Ep. 15. So they had to have had that planned by the time they were cancelled. So the Illyria thing for the season was already in the bag. As for the Circle of the BT and the fight against W&H - I think that was probably....
I'm just gonna stop there actually. I'm getting into speculation territory. Might as well just wait for the DVD commentaries, which hopefully will provide insight into how things worked after they got cancelled.
Another note: I also seem to remember reading an interview with Amy Acker saying Joss was telling her all about what they were going to be doing with her (Illyria and such) in S5 (and maybe S6), and then he told her he was having dinner with Jordan Levin and she said, "Okay, call me if we get cancelled." And Joss said, "Not gonna happen." And lo and behold, it did, and he called Amy and then everyone got drunk or something.

The thing you forget is, they have tend to have these things in the can WAY before they air, so their margin for tying things up was quite a bit shorter than that.... Or it could just be the Prozac talking again...

ok no TPTB it ain't the Prozac talking. Joss had a whole other season ready to go and was about to start it when they heard the bad news. Illyria was planned to happen when she did, and they had plan on working with her character in S6 but because they got canceled they didn't have much of a chance to play with her character. The last six episode were done, like right then and were indeed rushed to close as many gaps as possible, but sadly left a few open. It was a great effort by Joss and crew to close the season but they could have done better.
Well in the good side of this, be thankful they canceled the show. Do you know how hard poor Amy would have to work in trying to look and fight like Illyria, while pregnant?

Ok Joss, I get what your saying about how it goes against everything you beleive in. But we saw what they did with one pregnancy, do you you really want to take the chance and see what the would have done for Amys' cause it just wouldn't be right for Illyria to be prenant. And I agree that they weren't right in cancelling the show but this way the characters can stay looking the same or change, if the fan wants them to, and noone has to worry about "hurting the baby" when she fights. The pregnancy is the ONLY reason why I say be thankful, THERE IS NO OTHER REASON other than the pregnancy to be thankful cause to me the WB were compelete Dumb-asses for cancelling the show. And should be tarred and feathered, and poke with very hot irons many, many time.

But really, don't worry. It was just a joke that was not meant to be taken seriously. Just that.
