The 13 original Colonies. I may live in Va. but my home and heart is in Mississippi, so maybe that don't count:)

Well, hell, I live in Wyoming... that's almost as far removed from the original 13 as you can get (can't take everything away from Alaska and Hawaii, y'know). But anyway, DemonClown, referring to the US as The Colonies is kind of a wink and a nudge to all of our good friends in the UK, who I'm sure have heard our lil' country referred to as such numerous times. I know I certainlay have. And, for the record, not that anyone cares , I REFUSE to refer to us as "America." It's a overused misnomer. We are the United States of America (or USA if you simply must). But it seems that everyone has forgotten that there are several other countries in North and South America, and I think it's downright selfish to hog the term "American" all to ourselves

To avoid unpleasantness right off the bat: This post is 0% sarcasm. And, for the record, not that anyone cares , I REFUSE to refer to us as "America." It's a overused misnomer. We are the United States of America (or USA if you simply must). But it seems that everyone has forgotten that there are several other countries in North and South America, and I think it's downright selfish to hog the term "American" all to ourselves Allow me to say in the words of the immortal Homer Simpson: Bravo (clap) (clap) (clap)As a resident of one of the "backwater" Central American countires (which I'm sure EVERYONE in this forum is sick of hearing me say) this is something that has always bothered me and many of my friends. But I've never seen an actual "American" that is also bothered by this.

as far as that's concerned, i really never thought of it. plus, people i've talked to about stuff like that never refer to themselves as "south american" or whatever, but they refer to themselves by which country they're from: argentinian, brazilian, peruvian, mexican, etc. it seems that we're the only ones who even want the term "american"
