First of all, no one is ganging up on you.
Now bear in mind that Lorne's last act was to kill Lindsey in cold blood. I doubt he's been his cheery self since. Lorne has served his purpose on the show and his story is over.
On the other hand, Tobit to me seems a similar sort of character to Lorne in a lot of ways. He would make a great wizard. Also has a little subplot going on about deception. In The Wizard of Oz, the wizard lies about his powers since he basically has none. If you read about Tobit's character, he's full of deceptions. So Tobit would be a good wizard. I don't see why it has to be a dream/vision for Tobit to be the wizard character

alright alright i'm sorry for my previous out blast.
I just think that Lornes character was left very open thats all.
If this episodes to work I think we should start it from the ground up now. How its going to start the sort of effects it's going to have.
I'd like too see perhaps the acctual Wizard of Oz referances kept right down. Perhaps a spell or mispell trying to disconnect Illyria and Fred from each other causes them to take on different personas like was said Fred - Dorothy, Spike - scarecrow, Angel - Coward Lion, Illyria - Tin (wo)man, Andrew - Toto (very lost and scared.)
Some knowledge could remain such as the existance of demons then they hear say a message on the answer phone from Tobit asking to meet them. Then they could go looking for him. Could be an interesting start. Or Tobit tells them about a person in danger and seeing as that's their only lead they follow it.

Actually, as direct Oz references go, Andrew would be better suited to scarecrow: a very intelligent character who isn't acknoledged as such until the Wizard pointed it out.
For some reason, nobody seems to remember that Andrew was once an evil genius, literally. Granted, a FAILED evil genius, but...

But If Andrew is the scarecrow then what do we do with Spike? Do we make him Toto? He's been compared to a dog before.

hmmmm possibly, especially just for the comedic possibilities. Spike with a little doggie ears is a visual that's just so damn cute you could die. Symbolically, I guess it wouldn't be TOO far off; he's been kept on a leash by The Initiative, by the Scoobies, by Wolfram & Hart, and now, by his own lack of purpose. Okay, mebbe I'm stretching the metaphor a little thin here If I were to go with lieteral transpositions, I'd say: Andrew as Scarecrow, Angel as Cowardly Lion (if ever an episode could be used to explain the choice, it's "I Will Remember You"), Spike as Tinman (who claims not to have a heart but has proven time and again that he's one of the most passionate characters in the Whedonverse), and Tobit as Toto (semi-obediant lapdog). The twist I would use would be to have Fred as Dorothy and Illyria as the Wizard. In the original, the Wizard is purported to be almighty until Toto reveals the the man behind the curtain to be a rather unmighty old man; here, however, the Wizard would be revealed to be Dorothy herself.... hehe, just pictured Fred in pigtails and a country dress, tooooo cute....
